The gameplay mechanics are well thought out, so players know exactly what to do when, but at the same time, they are free to play the game however they want to. And there's enough challenge that the whole "hacker" thing doesn't end up as a gimmick.

You accept jobs from anonymous individuals which involve breaking into a company's server to do illegal shit. You play as a newbie Agent (read: hacker) working for the enigmatic Uplink Corporation as a for-hire hacker.

I had to fiddle with the resolution settings a bit in the beginning, and the mouse-only controls threw me off, but once I got into the hang of it I began to really appreciate what this game was trying to do. It was gathering virtual dust on my library up until yesterday, when I decided to boot it up. I bought this game off of GoG a while back when it went on sale, just on a whim.
